Collaborate on REIN
REIN is a new immersive 3 screen installation from Leonie-Rae Gasson, fusing moving image, multi-sensory set design and dance in an erotic exploration of dyke sexuality, emerging from the Scottish landscape.
Guided by a queer team, and driven by a neurodivergent dramaturgy, the work permits audiences to join a journey through a landscape reclaimed by a cornucopia of subculture characters.

Deadlines for expressions of interest: 5pm Monday 10th April

Call out for Costume Designers
We are looking for expressions of interest from a Costume Designer (either an individual, pair or collective) to contribute to a research and development period for new immersive moving image installation REIN, to develop costume design ideas for 6 key scenes, and to produce 4 costumes for a 1 day test shoot in November 2023. The final work will premiere as part of an international festival in 2025.
Rate of Pay
The designer will be paid SAU rates of £270 per day
Timeline
R&D: Autumn 2023 TBC
Work premiere: Autumn 2025
The Costume Designer will develop costumes for a series of kinky dyke characters. Incorporating historical dyke wear and paying attention to subculture groups such as Leather Daddies and High Femme Princesses the Costume Designer will bring a dramatic, other worldly, contemporary feel to the work whilst ensuring costumes are suitable for movement and filming in outdoor contexts. We are keen for the Costume Designer to also incorporate the work of queer makers in the UK, and this role is an opportunity to showcase the work of leather makers, sex toy creators and tailors alike.
The work explores a cornucopia of dyke identities: daddies, brats, switchy princesses, bunnies, riggers, soft bois, service subs, trans dykes, poly dykes, stud dykes, baby dykes, bi dykes, asexual dykes, femme dykes, elder dykes, enby dykes, fag dykes, stone butch dykes and dykes of all other shapes, sizes and in-betweens. Director Leo is exploring neurodivergent ways of development and in particular is interested in seeing how the costume design can play with tactility and texture.
As part of their work on the project the designer, along with the whole team, will be required to attend 3 (paid) trainings and workshops exploring access, consent and boundaries as part of developing their approach to the project.
The costume designer will work with the Access & Care team to ensure that the costumes meet the access needs and requirements of the performers.

About Leonie Rae Gasson
Leonie Rae Gasson is a queer, dyke, neurodivergent, Glasgow-based Director working across artforms including live performance, interactive installation, participation and virtual reality. This work comes from her lived experience of the joys and desires of queer sex and dyke kink, and a passion for bringing that into arts spaces to create something playful and sensual and bold! It comes from a desire to bring together exciting creative dykes and see what we can make.
REIN follows on from several works exploring queerness and sex, from a theatre work co-created with teenagers about sex, to a pornographic autobiographical installation DYKE which Gasson performed in.
Call out for Sound Designers
We are looking for expressions of interest from a Sound Designer to contribute to a research and development period for new immersive moving installation REIN, to develop sound compositions for a scene we will develop and shoot in Oct/Nov 2023. The final work will premiere as part of an international festival in 2025. There will be no spoken dialogue in the piece. Instead the sound palette of the work focuses on body sounds - the sound of hands on bodies, lips smacking, soft kisses and hard spanks - and vocal sounds - rhythmic breaths, hearty cackles, grunts, moans. We are looking for a sound designer who can embrace this idea and use recordings from the scene, foley or other recordings to create the sound world of the work.
The sound designer will be responsible for the ‘in-scene’ diegetic sound as well as the score for the work.
Rate of Pay
The designer will be paid SAU rates of £270 per day
Timeline
R&D: Autumn 2023 TBC
Work premiere: Autumn 2025
The work is a multi screen immersive installation so director Leo is interested in how the sound is spacialised in the presentation space, and how the sound can contribute to the audience’s sense of immersion in the world.
The work explores a cornucopia of dyke identities: daddies, brats, switchy princesses, bunnies, riggers, soft bois, service subs, trans dykes, poly dykes, stud dykes, baby dykes, bi dykes, asexual dykes, femme dykes, elder dykes, enby dykes, fag dykes, stone butch dykes and dykes of all other shapes, sizes and in-betweens. The designer should have a playful and inclusive approach to the work and its exploration of dykedom.
As part of their work on the project the sound designer, along with the whole team, will be required to attend 3 (paid) trainings and workshops exploring access, consent and boundaries as part of developing their approach to the project.
The sound designer will work with the Access & Care team to ensure that any recording with the cast and/or team is done in a way that is accessible to those being recorded.
Requirements
-
Experience creating soundtracks/scores for moving image
-
Experience with location recording and audio postproduction techniques for film: ADR, foley, mixing.
-
Experience working with queer teams, and an awareness of different historical and contemporary trends in queer music.
-
Affinity to the wider aims of and approach to the project
-
Experience with designing sound for multi-speaker systems
